Porter Airlines Victoria-Toronto flight cancelled after child stood on seat, refused to wear seatbelt

Porter Airlines canceled a Victoria-to-Toronto flight due to a disruptive toddler who refused to wear a seatbelt. The incident occurred at Victoria International Airport in British Columbia on Thursday. The plane departed from the terminal and reached the runway when staff noticed the child "was standing in their seat and would not secure their seatbelt."

Both the parent and the airline's crew tried to resolve the situation but were unable to do so. As the aircraft couldn't take off in an unsafe condition, the crew decided to return to the terminal and have the passengers disembark. Initially, the parent and child were escorted off the aircraft, but later, this decision was extended to all passengers on board.

Due to the time required to remove the problematic passengers, collect their luggage, complete paperwork, and refile flight plans, the plane couldn't take off before the Victoria International Airport runway closed at 12:30 a.m. Porter Airlines issued an apology, stating that affected passengers were accommodated overnight, although it wasn't clear how they managed to do so.

The airline expressed regret for the inconvenience this caused to other passengers who managed to board a subsequent flight the following afternoon.
