'Pellet guns strictly for...': Ranchi police 'fully prepared' as Jharkhand students announce ‘Vidhan Sabha gherao’

Ranchi Police declared on Sunday that it was fully prepared to manage the anticipated "Vidhan Sabha gherao" by Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC)-JSSC aspirants. They assured that no action would be taken against protesters if the demonstration remained peaceful. Police spokesperson Paras Rana mentioned that precautionary force deployment would be deployed effectively, given the large number of students expected to participate in the protest.

He clarified that any pellet guns carried by security personnel were intended for emergency situations, not for crowd control as falsely suggested by a viral video. Student protesters, however, insisted on a CBI probe into alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations, rejecting a government proposal for a judicial inquiry led by a retired judge.

Talks between student representatives and the Jharkhand government resulted in the possibility of cancelling three exams: the 14th JPSC Civil Services Examination, JPSC Backlog 2023, and JPSC Backlog 2025. The protesters are seeking a CBI inquiry into the matter, but age relaxation remains unresolved.
