Ooni unveils names of newborn princess

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, recently announced the names of his newborn daughter during a vibrant traditional naming ceremony at his palace in Ile-Ife, Osun State. The ceremony took place exactly one week after the healthy delivery of the royal baby girl by Ooni's wife, Queen Oluwatosin Ogunwusi. The event brought together traditional rulers, palace chiefs, cultural custodians, royal family members, dignitaries, and well-wishers from across Nigeria.

The princess was given multiple names - Adelewa, Adeyele, Adeshikemi, and Ayoade, officially recorded as Omo Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II. The Lowa Adimula of Ife, Oba Ademola Adeyeye, announced the names with the Ooni's approval. During the ceremony, the Lowa Adimula prayed for the princess's wisdom, health, strength, grace, and long life, while also wishing her to become a worthy representative of the royal dynasty and a symbol of Yoruba heritage.

The naming ceremony involved the use of various symbolic items, each representing different prayers and wishes, such as sweetness, prosperity, wisdom, longevity, abundance, peace, knowledge, fertility, divine protection, and honor. These items included sugarcane, Aadun, honey, dried fish, money, pen, bitter kola, kola nuts, alligator pepper, snails, schnapps, water, palm oil, and doves.

The Ooni expressed deep gratitude to Olodumare for the arrival of his newborn daughter, attributing the safe delivery to divine grace and faithfulness. He also thanked the people of Ile-Ife and the Yoruba race for their blessings and wished for continued peace, unity, prosperity, and progress for the kingdom.
