NRS boss, Adedeji under fire over Nigerian economy comment

The Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service, Zacch Adedeji, has faced criticism from Nigerians following his recent remarks about critics of economic reforms under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. In a viral video, Adedeji questioned the critics about what they would have done differently, prompting a heated response on social media.

Development professional Joe Abah, a former Director-General of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms, condemned Adedeji's comment as insensitive. He pointed out that Adedeji could learn from the UK's Andy Burnham, who has made significant changes in a short period, such as removing a VAT on domestic electricity and capping bus fares. Abah suggested that Adedeji should use the increased tax revenue to address the cost of living issues faced by Nigerians.

Lawyer Vena Ikem also criticized Adedeji, questioning the value of the millions of dollars spent on his convoy compared to the tax collected from poor people. Ikem expressed hope that Adedeji would face consequences for his perceived arrogance.

Adekunle Oderinde took issue with the size and cost of Adedeji's convoy, comparing it unfavorably to the UK Prime Minister's. He questioned how Adedeji could lecture Nigerians about suffering while driving an expensive and long convoy on scarce resources.
