No financial irregularities, leaving post for health reasons: Spanish envoy

Spanish Ambassador to India Juan Antonio March Pujol has stated there are no financial irregularities tied to his tenure, dismissing allegations of financial misconduct raised by the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office. The Spanish government is reportedly recalling Pujol due to these allegations, with a new envoy expected in the coming weeks.

Pujol, however, claims his departure is due to personal health issues, not the allegations. He presented his credentials to India's President in July 2024 and had planned cultural events in Rajasthan to celebrate 70 years of diplomatic relations between the two nations. The Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation had vetoed these events after a report from the cultural attaché.

Pujol also faced criticism for plans to fund upcoming concerts involving a Chinese singer, which he claimed were to be sponsored by companies and the Rajasthan government but were not authorized by the Spanish ministry. Pujol plans to take a holiday and leave his post in Delhi after it ends.
