No Felda hotel sale proposal when I was chairman, says Shabery

Former Felda chairman Ahmad Shabery Cheek has stated that no proposal to sell any of the agency's London hotels was submitted during his tenure, which concluded in late June. Felda owns four properties in London, consisting of two hotels and two student accommodation properties. Shabery expressed concern over reports suggesting the prime minister was misled about the sale of Felda hotels, and questioned if such a proposal had been made after his departure.

The total value of the four properties is reportedly £160 million (RM867 million). Shabery emphasized the importance of clarifying the details of the London properties to prevent confusion between the value of individual properties and the overall portfolio. Decisions regarding the sale of Felda assets require approval from the government, including the finance ministry and an advisory committee to the Prime Minister's Department.

Recently, Anwar Ibrahim, who is also the finance minister, refused to approve a proposed sale of a Felda hotel for £100 million (RM550 million) after being informed that the property had been bought by the previous management for £160 million. Anwar has ordered a comprehensive report on the matter, stating that Felda should not incur losses while settlers continue to face income shortages and inadequate facilities.
