MTN Ghana launches 2026 Sustainability Month, says “Small Actions, Big Impact”

MTN Ghana kicked off its 2026 Sustainability Month at its headquarters in Accra, urging the company to shift sustainability from mere awareness to tangible impact. During the launch, CEO Stephen Blewett emphasized that sustainability is now a core part of MTN's Ambition 2030 strategy, describing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) as a leadership discipline that transforms intentions into tangible results.

The month-long event, themed 'Together for a Sustainable Future: Small Actions, Big Impact,' highlights the company's dedication to responsible growth. Recognizing the expanded scope of the initiative, Blewett explained that MTN extended the duration of the program from one week to an entire month. He noted that MTN's biodegradable SIM cards have been adopted by over 4.7 million customers, effectively preventing the release of an estimated 10,288 kilograms of plastic into the environment.

Project Zero, another initiative, has seen the installation of 3.02 megawatts of solar power across more than half of MTN Ghana's facilities. Socially, the MTN Ghana Foundation's Y’ello Care program has trained over 1,000 young people in climate-smart farming techniques and the company continues to be Ghana's leading corporate blood donor.

In terms of economic impact, Blewett reported that MTN has invested more than $1 billion in its network over the past five years and mentored the inaugural cohort of 50 SME CEOs through a Mini MBA program partnered with Absa Bank and NOVA Business School Africa. Looking ahead, Blewett remarked, "As we mark 30 years, the next 30 years will demand more responsibility, more innovation, more resilience and more impact. When Ghana grows, MTN grows."
