Motorcycle using BMW car's registration seized in operation

KUALA LUMPUR: During a morning operation in Jalan Ampang, police seized a motorcycle that was using a registration number previously owned by a BMW car. The motorcycle was being ridden by an 18-year-old teenager, whose 17-year-old girlfriend sat pillion. The bike belonged to the girl's father, who had purchased it in Tanjung Malim four months ago.

The teenage girl claimed she was unaware that the motorcycle had a false registration number. She and her boyfriend had gone out earlier to attend a family birthday event, and were returning late from the celebration when they were detained. This was the first time the teenager had been arrested. In the same operation, a 19-year-old youth named Alif from Cheras tried to flee while being chased by enforcement officers.

He was apprehended before he could escape. When questioned, Alif revealed that the motorcycle's road tax had expired, there was no insurance, and its rear brake was not functioning. Another youth who had just completed his Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination was also arrested. He was riding his father's motorcycle, which had a modified exhaust fitted by the youth himself.

The modification was made to give the bike a louder exhaust note after a friend recommended it. The operation, carried out by police and the Road Transport Department, aimed at inspecting motorcycles and ensuring they were roadworthy.
