Morocco and Algeria qualify for 2027 Women’s World Cup

Morocco and Algeria have qualified for the 2027 Women’s World Cup, marking significant achievements for both teams. Algeria secured a historic first-time spot in the prestigious tournament, while Morocco achieved their second consecutive qualification.

Algeria's journey to the final four came after a thrilling 2-1 victory over Ivory Coast at Moulay Rachid Stadium in Casablanca. Second-half goals from Ines Khiri and Amira Ould Braham overturned Ivory Coast's early lead, led by Ines Konan. This victory marked Algeria's first appearance in the continental competition's final four, where they will face Malawi or Ghana in Rabat.

Morocco, on the other hand, completed a remarkable turnaround by defeating South Africa 2-1 in a repeat of the 2022 Wafcon final. The Atlas Lionesses, coached by Jorge Vilda, who led Spain to the FIFA Women’s World Cup title in 2023, now head to the World Cup for the second time. Vilda expressed optimism about the team's progress and their focus on preparing for the World Cup.

The qualifying teams for the 2027 World Cup will automatically advance from the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon). Morocco and Algeria will face each other in the semi-finals on August 12 in Rabat, where they will compete against Cameroon or defending champions Nigeria. The remaining two teams from the losing Wafcon quarter-finals will participate in an African play-off, with the winners joining the inter-confederation play-offs.
