Mets Claim Infielder Off Waivers From Guardians

The New York Mets have bolstered their roster by claiming infielder Gabriel Arias off waivers from the Cleveland Guardians. This move comes after the Guardians designated Arias for assignment earlier in the week. The 26-year-old Arias had a productive season with the Guardians, appearing in 42 games where he hit five home runs, drove in 11 runs, and collected 31 hits at a .244 batting average.

Before that, in 2025, Arias had an even more impressive campaign for the Guardians, hitting 11 home runs, driving in 54 runs, and batting .220 in 129 games. The Mets, who have been among the worst teams in baseball this season, are taking a calculated risk on Arias, a veteran with five years of MLB experience. With his career batting average of .219 over 362 games, it remains to be seen if Arias can elevate his game and make a significant impact for the Mets.
