Meta CTO says AI productivity gains should mean more work, not extra time off

Meta's Chief Technology Officer, Andrew Bosworth, has stated that increased productivity gains stemming from AI should not lead to more time off for employees. Bosworth was responding to a question about whether AI productivity gains could be channeled into more vacation time, to which he affirmed that this was not the plan.

The social media giant is currently providing employees with four weeks of paid leave annually, and there are no plans to bring back the cancelled 'Meta Days' program that allowed staff to take additional days off. Bosworth emphasized that the extra time should be invested in developing more products for Meta's users. He acknowledged that the question about more time off might have been asked tongue-in-cheek.
