McLaren praises talent eyeing F1 seat: 'Showed great maturity'

McLaren team principal Andrea Stella has expressed strong admiration for reserve and development driver Leonardo Fornaroli. The young Italian, who secured the Formula 2 championship last year, is currently McLaren's reserve and development driver. Stella recently praised Fornaroli's maturity in approaching Formula 1, noting his meticulous and diligent attitude during tests.

Fornaroli has already participated in multiple FP1 sessions with the British team, driving the MCL40 at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya and the Hungaroring. McLaren's engineers have been pleased with his progress and performance. Stella believes Fornaroli's journey through the team's Driver Development Programme is on track, and the organization hopes to provide him with further growth opportunities.

Additionally, Fornaroli is reportedly in discussions with Haas to replace Esteban Ocon for the next season. With Ocon's tenure potentially ending, Fornaroli's move to the American team seems likely. McLaren is supportive of this transfer and would loan Fornaroli to Haas, allowing him to partner with British driver Oliver Bearman. The team's principal reiterated their belief that Fornaroli is an asset for the future of Formula 1, stating they want him to drive in the sport.
