Makkah Accord ‘purely defensive in nature’: Dar

Islamabad: Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has stated that the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement is "purely defensive in nature" and not directed at any specific country. The agreement, signed by Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey, aims to bolster peace, stability, and prosperity in the region. Dar emphasized that the Makkah Accord fosters "brotherly relations between the leadership and peoples of the three countries" and does not supersede any existing bilateral or multilateral agreements.

Any armed attack against one of the three nations will be perceived as an attack on all, aligning with Article 51 of the UN Charter. Dar affirmed that the pact remains open to any regional country respecting its principles and resolving disputes through mutual respect, cooperation, and peaceful means.
