Lahore Traffic Police Launch Major Crackdown Ahead of Independence Day

Lahore's traffic police have ramped up efforts to curb dangerous riding practices and road violations leading up to Independence Day festivities. Chief Traffic Officer Syed Abdul Raheem Shirazi has ordered all circle officers to launch ongoing operations targeting wheelie riders, underage drivers, and those engaging in reckless driving, particularly in high-traffic areas.

The police will also crack down on motorcycle mechanics who alter bikes to enable dangerous wheelie riding, such as removing silencers or modifying exhaust systems.

Officers will focus on enforcing laws against motorcycles operated without silencers, exhaust baffles, or any modifications that create excessive noise and public disruptions during Independence Day celebrations. Traffic officials plan to launch awareness campaigns in motorcycle markets, educating mechanics about the legal repercussions of illegal modifications. They will also enlist help from Lahore Police to track repeat offenders through door-to-door verification.

The traffic police will monitor social media for any accounts promoting wheelie riding or road hooliganism, taking legal action against such content. In addition to enforcement operations at major roads and high-risk locations, Shirazi has called on parents to discourage their children from participating in dangerous riding practices, emphasizing the potential for severe injuries or fatalities.
