Kalonzo steps up 2027 message, vows to defend youth rights

Kalonzo Musyoka, leader of the Wiper Party and former Vice President, has intensified his political messaging leading up to the 2027 General Election. His recent focus has been on youth opportunities, peaceful protests, and ensuring electoral integrity. On Sunday, August 9, 2026, Musyoka addressed a church service at Divine International Word Outreach in Nairobi, expressing concern over the lack of opportunities for the youth and the intimidation they face when voicing their demands for a better Kenya. He emphasized that a country losing the confidence of its youth is risking its future.

Musyoka reiterated that his opposition party would continue to pursue its political objectives through lawful and peaceful means, while defending the right to protest. He stated that no Kenyan should be threatened for exercising this constitutional right and emphasized the importance of respecting the will of the people in the upcoming election, which must be free and fair.

During a meeting with French Ambassador Arnaud Suquet and German Ambassador Sebastian Groth on August 8, Musyoka highlighted the concerns over the violence and the treatment of protesters, warning that this is not the vision for Kenya. He also raised questions about the independence of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, stressing that a credible election depends on the Commission's independence, not just on paper.

Musyoka highlighted France and Germany as important partners in Kenya's democratic journey, thanking them for their candid discussions and stressing the importance of peace and rule of law.
