Jared Verse Involved in Altercation With Rookie OT at Browns Practice

An altercation erupted during Cleveland Browns' training camp practice on Saturday, involving pass rusher Jared Verse and rookie offensive tackle Spencer Fano. According to The Athletic's Zac Jackson, Verse engaged in a series of punches with Fano, causing them both to fall to the ground. However, other teammates managed to separate the two players, who were back in for the next play.

Fano, the team's No. 9 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, received positive feedback from fans when he stood up Verse during the subsequent play, using him in pass protection. This was the second incident of its kind for the Browns this training camp, with a previous fight occurring on August 1st involving multiple players. Jared Verse, 25, joined the Browns as part of a trade that sent Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams.

The Akron Beacon Journal's Chris Easterling previously reported that Verse had been mentoring Fano since the rookie's arrival. Fano expressed his gratitude, stating that Verse had been instrumental in helping him correct mistakes during practice. The Cleveland Browns are entering a challenging season, aiming to improve on their 5-12 record from the previous year.

Alongside the on-field brawls, there is also a quarterback controversy with Shedeur Sanders and veteran Deshaun Watson competing for the starting position. Regardless of which QB takes the field, Fano will be crucial in protecting the offensive line as the team rebuilds. Cleveland's first preseason game is scheduled for Saturday, August 15th against the Chicago Bears, and their regular season opener will be on September 13th against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
