Induction of woman Minister into State Cabinet likely to be completed soon, says Laxman Savadi

Minister Laxman Savadi stated on Saturday that the appointment of a female legislator into the State Cabinet is expected to be finalized soon. Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar is presently evaluating the matter. During a press conference in Belagavi, Savadi declined to discuss the specific portfolios, asserting that a portfolio's significance hinges on its effective management.

Regarding the BJP's allegation that Basavaraj Horatti was removed from his position as Chairman of the Legislative Council "like a goonda," Savadi expressed deep respect for Horatti, stating that he was treated with dignity by the Chief Minister and relinquished his post with grace. When asked about the Congress high command's advice to work together for retaining power in the 2028 Assembly elections, Savadi emphasized the importance of collaboration among local leaders.

He also noted that the Opposition's role is to visit affected areas due to drought, evaluate the situation, and raise concerns during the Assembly session. Responding to criticism over the Congress government's perceived lack of progress despite holding 136 MLAs, Savadi urged the BJP to remain active to maintain political relevance.

He warned that the party might struggle to retain its existing seats in the 2028 elections if it remains inactive. Savadi confirmed that the government would review the Opposition's suggestions and reports on drought and excessive rainfall. He further mentioned that he had recently visited six taluks in Uttara Kannada and would submit his report on Monday. The government had directed officials to implement necessary measures where required.
