Indian Navy joins search for three fishermen missing after boat mishaps in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, Indian Navy vessels have joined efforts to locate three fishermen missing after separate boat accidents in Kerala, according to officials. The INS Kalpeni, a naval ship, departed from Kochi on Saturday night to assist in the search. Anchored one nautical mile off Neendakara on Sunday, the ship is equipped with a specialized diving team and a Marine Enforcement boat to aid in the search. Around 10 am, divers began their underwater search, utilizing portable SONAR to enhance their capabilities.

The search for Gautam Krishna, who capsized while fishing off Neendakara, is being prioritized by the Navy. Once completed, the focus will shift to Muthalappozhi and Vizhinjam, where other missing fishermen John and Shijin went missing in separate incidents on July 31. The search by local authorities, the Marine Enforcement Wing of the Fisheries Department, and the Coast Guard has been ongoing for ten days.

The search operation was initiated following protests from the families of the missing fishermen, who accused authorities of inadequate response. Opposition parties also criticized the slow police action. Union Minister Suresh Gopi vowed to continue his efforts to locate Gautam Krishna, emphasizing his personal connection to the case and his commitment to bringing the missing man home.

Gopi, along with Indian Oil, has mobilized resources to bolster the search, including providing fuel and ensuring uninterrupted availability of facilities. An emergency helipad is being prepared in Amritapuri to expedite rescue operations.
