Himachal Pradesh issues orange alert for heavy rain

Heavy rain is expected to continue across 10 districts of Madhya Pradesh from August 9 to August 11, 2026. Dindori district recorded 6 inches of rain over the course of a day, causing severe waterlogging and disrupting transportation. Road connectivity between Dindori and nearby cities has been cut off, with water from the Kharmer River flowing above bridges and causing major traffic jams. The Narmada River's water level is also rising, prompting evacuations of families in vulnerable areas.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings of moderate to heavy rainfall in Datia, Rewa, and Sidhi districts. A trough line is passing over the state, and a cyclonic circulation over West Bengal has led to the formation of a low-pressure area. These weather systems may bring additional spells of heavy rainfall in the coming days.

Madhya Pradesh has received 17.2 inches of rainfall this monsoon season, falling short of the normal 21.5 inches by 4.3 inches (20%). The eastern parts of the state have experienced a 23% rainfall deficit, while the western region is facing an 18% deficit.

In Bhopal, public transport is facing a crisis, with the city bus fleet dwindling from over 350 vehicles to around 60 in just four years. As heavy rain continues, authorities are urging residents to avoid waterlogged roads and areas.
