Govt extends ED Director Navin's tenure by 1 yr

The government has extended the tenure of Enforcement Directorate Director Rahul Navin by one year, according to an order released on Sunday. Navin, a 59-year-old Indian Revenue Service officer from the Income Tax cadre, has been leading the federal anti-money laundering agency since August 14, 2024. He holds a B.Tech and M.Tech degree from IIT-Kanpur and an MBA from Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne.

Navin has authored several publications on international taxation and transfer pricing. The official order from the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet states that Navin's extension will last until August 13, 2027, including service beyond his planned retirement date. During his tenure, the ED has pursued high-profile investigations, including those related to political consultancy firm I-PAC and online money gaming companies.

The agency has also focused on fraud cases involving real estate giants and used powers under anti-money laundering laws to restore assets to victims. Recently, Navin visited Kerala to review cases being probed by the agency's Kochi unit, including one involving mining company CMRL and its ties to Exalogic, the former firm of Pinarayi Vijayan's daughter.
