Florida couple retires early to $461K Greece home bought sight unseen

Jeffrey Davidson and Walter Zak, a Florida couple with a 32-year history together, made the decision to retire early and relocate to Greece in 2024. Their choice was sparked by a two-week trip to the country during their 30th anniversary, which allowed them to immerse themselves in Greek culture and life. After thorough research and planning, they decided to purchase a property in Platanos, a coastal village in the Peloponnese, for $461,000 without having ever seen it firsthand.

The couple sold their three-story townhome in Florida and downsized their belongings before moving to Greece. Upon arrival, they faced the challenge of establishing their new life, including obtaining necessary services and becoming familiar with local customs. They settled on the slower pace of life, which included later dinner times and a traditional afternoon break. They also started learning the Greek language to better integrate into their new community.

The move has provided the couple with a newfound appreciation for a quieter lifestyle and a deeper connection to their surroundings. They now explore nearby towns and cities, including Athens, and have become close with their neighbors and frequent visitors to local restaurants. Despite their initial plans to only live in Greece temporarily, they are now content with their decision and find joy in embracing their new way of life.
