Fire extinguished at Aramco refinery in Jazan, Saudi Arabia says

Firefighters successfully extinguished a blaze at Aramco's Jazan refinery in southwestern Saudi Arabia on Sunday morning, according to the Saudi Energy Ministry. No injuries were reported in the incident. The industrial security teams of Aramco had brought the fire under control by the time the relevant authorities intervened to handle the situation.

The cause of the fire was not disclosed by the ministry. The Jazan refinery, which processes 400,000 barrels of crude oil daily, produces refined products including gasoline and ultra-light sulfur diesel. Following an attack by Yemen's Houthi rebels on July 27, the refinery was shut down due to damage to its Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) complex and tank farm area.

The Houthis claimed responsibility for the attack, stating they had struck Aramco sites in Jazan and Yanbu. These attacks raised concerns about potential threats to Red Sea shipping and Saudi oil infrastructure, which could further disrupt global trade stemming from the US-Israeli war on Iran and Iranian attacks on shipping around the Strait of Hormuz.

Aramco CEO Amin Nasser had previously mentioned that recent attacks on the company's facilities had caused some production interruptions, but he was confident that operations could be restored quickly. He also stated that the attacks had no significant operational or financial impact.
