FC Barcelona Coach Flick Makes Season Promise And Confirms Exits

FC Barcelona's head coach Hansi Flick has effectively made a new signing for the first team following their triangular series against Nottingham Forest and Udinese last night. Despite winning 1-0 against Forest with a late penalty from Raphinha, Barcelona fell to the same score against Udinese in the unique Friuli Venezia Giulia Cup tournament, not seen in 24 years.

The experience proved beneficial for young player Brian Farinas, who impressed in the first 45 minutes against the Premier League side. Farinas, 20 years old, has been progressing through the ranks, and his promotion to the first team can now be considered a reality. This move comes after Sporting Director Deco held a meeting with Farinas' entourage in late July, discussing his capabilities and attitude, which were well-received by the coaching staff and board.

Farinas will now have the opportunity to play with the first team in the 2026/2027 season, potentially gaining his first minutes as a professional. Interestingly, Farinas was almost linked with a permanent move to Girona, with a deal proposed for $1.75 million (€1.5 million) in exchange for 50% of his rights, but this transfer is now on hold as he secures a spot in Barcelona's first team.

This development is particularly noteworthy as there are midfield changes at Barcelona, with the expected arrival of Rodri from Manchester City potentially displacing Marc Casado and Tommy Marques, both former graduates of FC Barcelona's La Masia academy. Flick believes that Farinas' presence will provide depth and tactical solutions in the midfield throughout the season, and it is now up to him to further his progress in the elite.
