Eight teenagers and one man injured following M50 crash

Nine individuals, including eight teenage boys and one man, sustained injuries in a two-car collision on the M50 in Dublin. The accident occurred on the southbound side at Junction 12, near Firhouse, at 5:30 am yesterday morning. The teenagers were in one vehicle that collided head-on with another car. Eight of the injured were taken to various hospitals, with one in critical condition.

The driver of the other vehicle, a man in his twenties, was also seriously injured. The Office of the Police Ombudsman, Fiosrú, received a referral regarding the incident, which is required when there is contact with gardaí and either a death or serious injury of a member of the public involved. This referral does not imply any accusation of garda misconduct but rather mandates an independent investigation into the incident to determine if any garda action or inaction may have contributed to the outcome.

The M50 section between Junction 12 and Junction 11 southbound was closed temporarily for a technical examination but has since been reopened. Gardaí are requesting witnesses, particularly those with dash cam footage from the 5 am to 5:30 am window, to come forward and contact Tallaght Garda Station or the Garda Confidential Line.
