Egypt calls for full Israeli withdrawal, sustained aid access to Gaza

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty urged for the full implementation of the Gaza roadmap in a phone call with US President Donald Trump's peace director-General Nikolay Mladenov, according to Anadolu news agency. The key points they discussed included a complete Israeli withdrawal from the Palestinian enclave and sustained humanitarian aid delivery to Gaza.

Abdelatty stressed the importance of ensuring safe and sustainable aid access to Gaza, and highlighted that Israeli withdrawal would facilitate the second phase of the roadmap, which involves early recovery and reconstruction efforts. He also called for the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza to commence its interim duties and for deploying an international stabilisation force to maintain security during the transitional period.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu firmly rejected Trump's 15-point Gaza peace plan, stating that Israel would not withdraw its forces until Hamas is genuinely disarmed. Netanyahu emphasized that Israel would continue to counter threats against its forces and citizens, while noting ongoing discussions with Washington on the matter.

The framework proposed by Trump involves a phased withdrawal of Israeli troops, transitioning governance to a Palestinian technocratic body, and international stabilisation efforts. However, a major sticking point remains: Israel insists on Hamas's full demilitarization before any troop pullout, despite continued military operations under the October ceasefire.
