Dubai to cut building permit processing times from days to minutes with AI

Dubai Municipality has unveiled an artificial intelligence-powered system to drastically reduce building permit processing times from several days to mere minutes, solidifying the city's commitment to digital transformation and smart governance. The innovative system will automatically issue permits for private and investment villas, verifying compliance with the Dubai Building Code and relevant technical and engineering requirements.

An intelligent AI agent will evaluate plot planning, architectural designs, MEP systems, structural safety, and building stability, cross-checking data from submitted drawings and supporting documents. It will also generate building card information and provide instant feedback to applicants, streamlining the process and minimizing human intervention.

The initiative will streamline Dubai Municipality's internal operations, allowing technical teams to focus on higher-value tasks and improve data analytics for informed decision-making. Eng. Mariam Al Muhairi, CEO of the Building Regulation and Permits Agency, emphasized that the AI-powered system represents a significant leap in service delivery, accelerating efficiency, enhancing quality, and supporting Dubai's vision of a smart, sustainable city.

The project is set to undergo three phases over 26 weeks, starting with AI agent development and testing, followed by a pilot phase, and concluding with full implementation for building permit applications across Dubai.
