Curiosity didn't kill THIS cat!

I embarked on a journey, not seeking adventure but a simple coffee fix. Unexpectedly, my route led me to a place I hadn't noticed before: Kebun Café, nestled in Kampung Kubu Gajah, Sungai Buloh. The path was peculiar; it avoided the usual commercial hubs and trendy shoplots, guiding me through quieter, more familiar lanes. The journey itself was captivating, with weathered shoplots evoking childhood memories and roadside stalls offering sizzling cempedak and pisang goreng.

Children on bicycles, neighbours chatting, and the occasional health campaign notwithstanding, the scene was unassuming yet enchanting. Upon arriving at Kebun, I was greeted by a simple sign and mature trees surrounded by greenery. The café, situated in a leafy compound, felt more like it had grown into its environment rather than being placed there.

Surrounded by families enjoying brunch and friends conversing over coffee, I was reminded of how often we overlook the journey in favor of reaching our destination. Ordering the flat white I came for, I savored the smooth, balanced brew and the delicate latte art, realizing the coffee was just a byproduct of the rewarding drive.

The experience made me reflect on how we often let others discover places for us, driven by social media hype and curated lists. However, there was something satisfying about finding Kebun through curiosity and a spontaneous detour. It sparked a thought: how much of our own neighborhood do we overlook daily? We drive past familiar roads, never questioning their significance.

Perhaps, the "hidden" gems we seek are right in front of us, waiting for curiosity to reveal them. As I returned home, I noticed the same roads with a newfound appreciation, eager to discover more of the stories hidden along the way.
