Congress asks Sule to flag INDIA bloc’s opposition to delimitation before PM Modi

The Congress has urged NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule to explicitly state the INDIA bloc's opposition to tying the Women's Reservation Act's implementation with delimitation, prior to her scheduled meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This appeal follows Sule's announcement that an NCP (SP) delegation of eight MPs would meet Modi on Monday to discuss matters concerning Maharashtra, including the water crisis, farmer suicides, and the impact of rapid urbanisation on developmental issues.

All India Congress Committee secretary Sachin Sawant emphasized that the delegation should also express the INDIA alliance's stance on delimitation to the Prime Minister. Sawant stated that NCP (SP) MPs, Sharadchandra Pawar in particular, would be meeting Modi on Monday to address issues relating to Maharashtra. Sawant urged the MPs to clearly convey that the INDIA Alliance's position is that the Women's Reservation Act, enacted in 2023, must be implemented immediately without any linkage to delimitation.

Sule announced on Saturday that the delegation comprising eight MPs from NCP (SP) would meet Modi at the Parliament House on Monday. During a press conference in Mumbai, Sule highlighted the delegation's intent to bring to the Centre's attention various issues in Maharashtra, such as the water crisis, farmer suicides, and challenges arising from urbanisation. Additionally, Sule pointed out the difficulties faced by MPs in utilizing their Rs 5 crore development funds, often due to a lack of state government support.

The NCP (SP) has also expressed opposition to the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, in its current form, with Sule arguing that the government should refrain from making hasty decisions on such legislation.
