CM Punjab Orders Cleanliness Drive in Private Housing Societies

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has issued orders to bolster the Suthra Punjab cleanliness initiative throughout the province, with particular emphasis on housing societies, residential neighborhoods, roads, and public spaces. Addressing a meeting, she instructed officials to ensure cleanliness in both cooperative and private housing complexes, and to implement standardized waste disposal containers and bags in commercial establishments. Additionally, she mandated fixed waste collection timetables.

The chief minister directed teams to undertake daily road washing and cleaning starting at 5 a.m., and ensure consistent street and neighborhood upkeep. She also directed authorities to initiate cleaning of vacant lots and guarantee door-to-door waste collection. Maryam ordered Suthra Punjab workers to receive their salaries by the fifth of each month, and directed authorities to clear pending payments to contractors, with immediate action required if payment delays occur.

She also tasked officials with enhancing cleanliness near educational institutions, colleges, universities, hospitals, parks, and green spaces, while removing waste from railway track surroundings and ensuring timely cleaning of city entry and exit points. The chief minister emphasized the formulation of standard operating procedures to gauge sanitation performance, and called for heightened attention to marketplaces dealing with fruits and vegetables.

She clarified that contractors should be given 24 hours to rectify violations before authorities impose fines, stressing that the primary objective should remain cleanliness over penalties.
