Carson Benge back in Mets' starting lineup vs. Pirates after off day following wrist injury scare

After sustaining a wrist injury during a game on Friday, Mets outfielder Carson Benge was sidelined Saturday to allow his wrist to recover. Benge returned to the starting lineup against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday, batting cleanup and playing right field. Interim manager Andy Green confirmed that Benge's X-rays were negative, and he appeared to be in good condition.

However, out of an abundance of caution, Benge was initially kept on the bench during the Pirates' second game of the series. Once Benge was cleared to play, he felt great and his swings appeared solid. The Mets decided to wait and see how he reacted to the situation before committing to his role in the lineup. Meanwhile, rookie right-hander Robert Stock, who had a challenging start on Saturday, is expected to make his next start for the team despite his struggles.

The decision to give Stock a day off was made in consideration of the heavy workload many of the young starters have already endured during their first full season in the major leagues.
