Bengaluru: Suspected illegal immigrants produced before FRRO

On Sunday, the Bengaluru city police conducted a special operation to identify and apprehend illegal immigrants within the city. According to police sources, a total of 105 suspected illegal immigrants were produced before the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) for further legal action. The police reported that the verification process for the documents of other individuals is ongoing.

In the Whitefield jurisdiction, the police screened 1,035 individuals, identifying 62 illegal immigrants in collaboration with 35 police teams. Meanwhile, in the Electronics City jurisdiction, 23 teams screened 1,909 individuals, leading to the identification of 43 illegal immigrants. The operations were carried out following the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) prescribed by the police department.

The Bengaluru city police clarified their actions after receiving letters from organizations such as the People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) and the All India Lawyers Association for Justice (AILAJ), stating that the actions were "illegal and constitutionally impermissible." However, the police emphasized that similar operations would continue across the city to identify and take legal action against individuals residing without valid documentation.
