Barcelona sporting director rejects the opportunity to sign Tottenham’s rising star

Barcelona's sporting director has decided against pursuing Tottenham's promising midfielder, Lucas Bergvall, despite his impressive performances for the North London club. The 2024 season for Barcelona proved to be underwhelming, with the team narrowly avoiding relegation, prompting a major overhaul under new manager Roberto de Zerbi.

The summer saw Luka Vuskovic depart from the club, and several other star players are reportedly on the move. Whilst Lucas Bergvall may not have been the top signing on their list, it seems he was indeed eyeing an exit from Tottenham. Barcelona representatives approached Bergvall's representatives with a move to the Catalan club, but the interest was not met with enthusiasm.

Deco and Barcelona's sporting department are not interested in rekindling the deal with the Swedish midfielder, even though his name has once again been linked with the club. This marks a notable change from a couple of years ago, when Barcelona showed genuine interest in Bergvall. Now, with Bergvall's camp actively seeking an exit, Barcelona has made it clear that they have no intention of engaging in a move.

The player's departure from Barcelona in 2024 is an interesting case, as the Swede had previously visited Barcelona's facilities and met with Deco, with his family also involved in the negotiations. Ultimately, Tottenham secured the young midfielder by offering a more lucrative financial package, and Barcelona declined to raise their bid, resulting in Bergvall joining Tottenham instead.

Two years later, despite Bergvall's struggle to make an impact at Spurs, Barcelona remains steadfast in their pursuit of other targets, such as Rodri from Manchester City and Julian Alvarez. With these priorities taking precedence and their financial resources stretched, a move for Bergvall simply does not fit into Barcelona's plans for this summer. For Bergvall, the search for a fresh start will have to continue elsewhere.
