Amid tensions over Sheikh Hasina, Dinesh Trivedi may call on Bangladesh PM today for BRICS invite

Dinesh Trivedi, India's High Commissioner to Bangladesh, is scheduled to meet with Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today amid tensions over Sheikh Hasina's recent media event in Delhi. Trivedi expressed confidence that the meeting will resolve issues between the two nations. This comes after Bangladesh expressed outrage over Hasina's virtual press conference, which India dismissed as having no involvement.

Hasina had announced her intent to return to Bangladesh in December to restore democracy, but Bangladesh's Foreign Ministry deemed the press conference disrespectful to its people and detrimental to bilateral ties with India. Rahman's Foreign Advisor had previously flagged concerns about such activities potentially undermining the positive relationship between Bangladesh and India.

The meeting will also discuss India's invitation for Rahman to attend the BRICS summit in New Delhi next month as chair of the BIMSTEC. However, Dhaka has not confirmed Rahman's attendance, with reports suggesting he may skip the India visit due to the latest dispute.
