949 motorists caught for drunk driving in Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri

In a special enforcement drive conducted by traffic police in Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Malkajgiri over the weekend, 949 motorists were caught driving under the influence of alcohol. Two-wheeler riders accounted for nearly 80% of the offenders, with 759 cases out of the total 949. The majority of the offenders were caught in Hyderabad, with 344 riders among the 421 caught.

Cyberabad saw 311 offenders, mostly two-wheeler riders (238), followed by four-wheelers (56) and three-wheelers (56). Malkajgiri had 217 offenders, mostly two-wheeler riders (177). The blood alcohol concentration (BAC) levels of the offenders ranged from 30 mg/100 ml to above 300 mg/100 ml. Hundreds of drunk-driving cases were also disposed of by courts in these regions, with most offenders receiving fines.

The traffic police urged commuters to cooperate with enforcement personnel and announced that such special drives would continue.
