The 14th of this month marks the deadline for the settlement deadline in the property division case between SK Group Chairman Choi Taewon and Art Center Director Na So-young. If neither party files a request for reconsideration by the stroke of midnight tonight, Choi is obligated to pay Na So-young the property division sum of 9,440 billion won.

This ruling was finalized after the ninth day when a Lower Court ruled that Choi must pay Na So-young 9,440 billion won in cash as the property division amount, including an annual interest of 5%. The dispute began in 2015 when Choi publicly revealed his extramarital child, leading him to file for a divorce and subsequently initiating property division proceedings.

In the first-instance court, Choi was found guilty of owning a portfolio worth 1 billion won and would have to pay Na So-young 665 billion won in property division. However, the second-instance court increased both the portfolio value to 20 billion won and the property division amount to 1.38 trillion won, acknowledging Na So-young's contribution of 300 billion won from former President Lee Na Young's private funds and her contributions to SK Group.

Despite the Supreme Court's overturning of the 300 billion won contribution, it still ruled that Choi's SK Group shares are still subject to property division, awarding Na So-young one-third of it. If either party files for reconsideration, the case will return to the Supreme Court. However, considering the legal grounds, the likelihood of the court upholding the initial ruling is high.

The deadline for filing for reconsideration is two weeks after receiving the ruling, calculated from the delivery date if it's before 12 am. As the delivery date was confirmed as January 1st at 0 am, the deadline for filing for reconsideration is now set to November 14th at midnight. If both parties fail to file for reconsideration by the deadline, Choi will be required to pay Na So-young the full amount of 9,440 billion won immediately, incurring a daily interest of approximately 12,930,000 won for any late payment.
