Yau to lead trade delegation to Malaysia on Monday

Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Algernon Yau will lead a business delegation to Kuala Lumpur on Monday to explore potential trade opportunities in Malaysia. Yau stated on a radio program that the mission aims to connect mainland and Hong Kong businesses with Malaysian government entities and companies. The mainland enterprises, which have already established operations in Hong Kong at Hong Kong's invitation, have identified specific services and business partnerships they seek in Malaysia.

Additionally, Yau will participate in a prominent promotional event organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday. He expressed confidence in InvestHK's ability to surpass its performance goal of assisting at least 1,200 overseas and mainland enterprises in establishing or expanding operations in Hong Kong this year and the following year.

The government's investment promotion agency assisted 413 companies in setting up a presence in Hong Kong during the first half of the current year, contributing over HK$53 billion in direct investment and creating more than 8,600 jobs.

Furthermore, Yau highlighted the positive reception of the GoGlobal Task Force, which is led by his bureau and aims to help mainland enterprises expand internationally through the Hong Kong market. Since the task force's establishment in October, over 200 mainland enterprises have set up operations in Hong Kong, and thousands of firms from major cities and provinces like Shanghai, Beijing, and Shandong have attended its mainland promotional events.
