X scraps revenue sharing, unveils new creator rewards programme

Twitter, now known as X, has announced the cessation of its Revenue Sharing program and the launch of a new Original Content Rewards programme for creators. The new initiative aims to reward creators who produce original content, including threads, videos, memes, graphics, and reporting, among other types. Existing Revenue Sharing participants will continue to earn until September 7, 2026, receiving three final payouts between August 14 and September 11.

New enrolments into the Revenue Sharing program will cease from Friday, while existing participants will have until September 8 to apply for the new programme. The first payout under the Original Content Rewards programme will occur on August 28, 2026, with subsequent payments made every two weeks. Eligible creators must meet various criteria, including being 18 years old, residing in a qualifying country, maintaining account integrity, subscribing to X Premium, having a minimum of 500 verified followers, and generating at least 500,000 unique impressions from Premium users in the past 90 days.

Content must reflect the creator's original voice and perspective, adding meaningful value to conversations, and not simply repost or duplicate existing material. Violations of the programme's requirements could result in account removal.
