Why Kyle Larson will try to lock into Knoxville Nationals even if he can't race

Despite the absence of a rain delay at the Marion County Fairgrounds next Saturday night, Kyle Larson faces an obstacle in his quest for a fourth victory in the Knoxville Nationals. However, Larson is still determined to maximize his chances of winning and securing as much prize money as possible. Currently driving the No. 57 for Paul Silva, Larson intends to qualify on the Thursday night prelim at Knoxville Raceway.

Nevertheless, there is a clash with the NASCAR Cup Series race on Saturday at Richmond Raceway, which means Larson will not be able to compete unless rain occurs in Knoxville. In addition to the Knoxville Nationals, Larson will participate in the Front Row Challenge at Southern Iowa Speedway on Monday night, where winning could earn him an extra $12,000.

Locking into the Saturday night feature would yield $15,000, even if Larson doesn't start. When asked about his hopes for rain during the Championship Saturday in Knoxville, Larson responded that it's unlikely, but he sees it as an opportunity to race and has already committed to the event in Iowa. The Knoxville Nationals offer a substantial prize of $200,000, and the overall purse for the event amounts to $1,187,605.

Due to the rules permitting a driver swap, if Larson cannot start the race next Saturday, Silva's crew member Trevor Canales would start and park the car, collecting the $15,000 for qualifying into the feature.
