Why Chiranjeevi advocates colonoscopy after 40: what to expect before the test

Chiranjeevi, the South Indian actor, recently spoke about undergoing a colonoscopy at the age of 40. Many assumed he had been diagnosed with cancer, but he clarified that doctors had instead found and removed non-cancerous polyps. Chiranjeevi used this incident to emphasize the importance of regular health screenings, especially for people over 40 and 45, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

During a World Cancer Day event in 2026, he continued to advocate for preventive screening. The colonoscopy involves bowel preparation for two to three days before the procedure, which includes switching to a low-fiber diet and avoiding certain foods. On the day before, a clear liquid diet is recommended, and a bowel-cleansing solution is prescribed.

Some medications may need to be adjusted, such as blood thinners, diabetes medicines, and iron supplements. Following the preparation instructions carefully ensures an accurate examination and helps prevent colorectal cancer by identifying and removing precancerous polyps.
