UNIWIZ Foundation trains Greater Accra ICT coordinators in advanced digital skills

The UNIWIZ Foundation organized a two-day Advanced Digital Skills Training for ICT coordinators from various districts in the Greater Accra Region. The training, held at Methodist University in Dansoman, aimed to enhance digital literacy and the delivery of ICT education in schools. The event, organized in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service, ModePlus Innovation Hub, and Intellite IT Solutions, focused on practical digital skills and strategies for teaching and learning.

The training, themed "Advancing Ghana’s Education Technology Workforce," was led by Wisdom Larry Quarme-Doe, Founder and CEO of the UNIWIZ Foundation. Quarme-Doe emphasized that while digital infrastructure is crucial, it is educators who drive digital transformation in schools. He called the ICT coordinators "digital champions" and urged them to embrace emerging technologies during the training.

The training program was designed to equip participants with advanced digital tools and practical skills to improve the integration of technology in teaching and learning. Participants were encouraged to learn from each other and share ideas to cascade the knowledge to thousands of young Ghanaians.

Ahmed Alhassan, the Regional Planning Officer for the Greater Accra Region, described the training as timely, noting that ICT has become a core subject at the basic level and an elective at the WASSCE level. He stressed the importance of continuous capacity-building for ICT coordinators and teachers to keep up with evolving digital skills.

Alhassan highlighted the need for more infrastructure, such as computer laboratories, in schools, as the current situation is still inadequate. The Embassy of Switzerland in Ghana supported the training as it addresses the need to equip children with digital skills to thrive in today's world. The Embassy encouraged participants to focus on the children, who are the ultimate beneficiaries of such training.
