Ukrainian Border Guards Report No Russian Strike Force Buildup in Belarus

Ukraine's Border Guard Service has not detected any build-up of Russian strike forces in Belarus along the Ukrainian border, according to a spokesperson. In an interview, Andriy Demchenko stated that both Border Guard units and the General Staff have observed no increase in Russian troop presence. However, Russia is reportedly pressuring Belarus to take a more direct role in the conflict, potentially through destabilization efforts along the Ukrainian border.

The border with Belarus has reportedly been strengthened compared to 2022, with improved engineering, fortifications, and mine barriers in vulnerable areas. Demchenko emphasized that Ukraine is not seeking conflict with Belarus but is prepared to respond to any escalation. Belarus has been warned that joining the war with its own forces would have serious consequences.

Ukraine has previously identified around 500 potential military targets in Belarus in case of direct involvement. Russia allegedly used signal repeaters on the Belarusian side to coordinate strikes on Ukrainian targets. Zelenskyy has called on Belarus to dismantle this equipment. Defense Forces Commander Oleksandr Pivnenko estimated that a major Russian threat from Belarus would require around 70,000 troops in the region.
