Ukraine says it struck 12 Russian shadow fleet vessels in Black Sea and Sea of Azov

Ukrainian long-range drones launched a series of attacks against 12 Russian shadow fleet vessels in the Black Sea and Sea of Azov last week, Ukrainian Unmanned Systems Forces reported on August 8. Operation Molochka, aimed at targeting Russia's shadow fleet in the region, began on July 6. As of the report, Ukrainian drones have successfully targeted 218 Russian shadow fleet vessels, with 134 in the Sea of Azov and 84 in the Black Sea.

The strikes were conducted by the Magyar's Birds Brigade, under the command of Unmanned Systems Forces Commander Robert Brovdi, K-2 Brigade, and Raid Regiment. Independent verification of the claim has not been possible by the Kyiv Independent. Russia has not commented on the matter as of publication. Moscow's Defense Ministry asserted on August 8 that it had shot down 83 Ukrainian drones the previous night, including over the Azov Sea.

The Molochka Operation remains ongoing, with Ukraine working to isolate Crimea and disrupt vital military routes. Ukraine's long-range drone strikes on occupied Crimea and the Black Sea and Sea of Azov are intended to weaken Russia's hold over the peninsula and curtail the financial support it receives from oil sales. The impact of these strikes on Russia's military effectiveness on the front remains uncertain.
