Two civilians killed in Houthi strike on Marib as UN warns of large-scale conflict

On Friday, two civilians lost their lives and fourteen others sustained injuries when Houthi forces targeted Marib, Yemen, with ballistic missiles and drones, according to state news agency SABA, as reported by Reuters. The UN special envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, warned on Saturday that the nation now faces a heightened risk of widespread conflict, surpassing any point since the UN-mediated truce in April 2022.

In response, Yemen's armed forces announced early Saturday that they had launched counterattacks against the Houthi forces across multiple sectors along the lines of contact. A spokesperson for the Yemeni armed forces, as broadcast on Yemen TV, claimed that the operation had achieved its intended goals and issued a stern warning that any further Houthi attacks would be met with a military response "without leniency." The army, however, refrained from providing specifics about the operations or the time they were executed.
