Three suspected extortionists arrested in Cape Town

Three suspected extortionists have been apprehended in Strand, Cape Town, for illegally possessing firearms and ammunition. According to police spokesperson Ndakhe Gwala, the individuals were part of Operation Lockdown Three, who received information about three armed suspects in the area. The suspects were reportedly in a vehicle demanding money from businesses when they were spotted at Xaki Street, Strand around 9:30 PM.

One suspect attempted to flee with a plastic bag but was apprehended, along with two firearms and 15 rounds of ammunition. Gwala announced that the three suspects would appear in the Strand Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday. On Wednesday, August 8, 2026, SAPS Aleberton Crime Prevention members were directed to a local filling station, where the same three suspects had allegedly committed a robbery the previous day.
