President Han Seung-soo visited the coastal city of Chodong in Gyeongbuk on the 8th to inspect the ongoing drought and scorching heat situation. The Office of the Premier announced that the President visited two key water supply facilities - Unmun Dam and the "Cooling Shelter" in Chodong County - to closely monitor the water supply situation and address the difficulties faced by the public.

The President emphasized the need for a comprehensive and meticulous response, even in the worst-case scenario, in order to ensure uninterrupted water supply and manage any difficulties. The President urged the relevant agencies to actively cooperate between the central and local governments, and to prepare contingency plans for emergency water supply and drinking water distribution.

The Chodong region has been experiencing prolonged heatwaves and severe drought, leading to a drastic reduction in agricultural water resources, with water levels in Chodong County plummeting to half of the normal level. The President stressed the importance of reviewing the overall water supply and management system, including groundwater resources, and actively providing information to the public.

Furthermore, the President urged the public to take advantage of cooling shelters during the hot weather to avoid overexertion and maintain good health.
