Sri Lanka Cricket announces selected free entry for India Tests in Galle and Colombo

Sri Lanka Cricket has announced free admission for the public at select gates during the upcoming two-Test series against India. The announcement comes as part of the World Test Championship, with the first Test scheduled to be played in Galle from August 15-19 and the second Test in Colombo from August 23-27. The free entry will be available through gates 4 at Galle International Cricket Stadium and gates 3, 4, 5, and 7 at the Sinhalese Sports Club.

Sri Lanka Cricket aims to encourage cricket fans, young players, families, and sports enthusiasts to witness high-quality Test cricket. This initiative is a response to the declining public interest in attending matches, a trend SLC has witnessed before. The move is not entirely new, as SLC has previously opened its gates for free during Tests against teams like New Zealand, Ireland, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan.

Free admission has also been extended during the 2026 T20 World Cup and women's international series. The Lanka Premier League has also experienced low attendance, initially requiring tickets but later switching to free entry to boost interest.
