Roughriders roll past winless Redblacks 42-20

In Regina, the Saskatchewan Roughriders secured a convincing 42-20 victory over the Ottawa Redblacks on Friday. Quarterback Trevor Harris, 40 years old, delivered a standout performance, completing 30 of 38 passes for 401 yards. This remarkable effort propelled Harris into the exclusive club of 12 quarterbacks in CFL history to surpass 40,000 career passing yards, with Harris currently sitting at 40,352.

Despite his reluctance to acknowledge personal accolades, head coach Corey Mace acknowledged Harris's achievement during the post-game celebration. Harris, known for deflecting such praise, was visibly cheered by the crowd when he accepted the offensive player of the game award. The victory improved the Riders' record to 6-2, while the Redblacks suffered their eighth consecutive loss, now facing a winless streak in eight games and a 14-game losing streak dating back to the 2025 season.

The Redblacks' recent struggles began after they fired defensive coordinator Will Fields on August 1. Harris admitted the Riders had initial difficulty adapting to Ottawa's defense, but once they understood the scheme, they executed four consecutive touchdown drives to dominate the game. The offensive performance was particularly impressive given the Riders' injuries, as they were missing key receivers Kian Schaffer-Baker, Samuel Emilus, and running back A.J.

Ouellette. Veteran KeeSean Johnson led the receiving corps with 11 catches for 133 yards and a touchdown, while newcomers Johnny Johnson III, D’Sean Mimbs, and Dylan Djete also delivered strong performances. Johnny Johnson III, a newcomer, had a standout game with 117 yards on seven catches. The Riders' defense, bolstered by their resilience, sealed the victory with three touchdown runs from Tommy Stevens, who leads the CFL with 11 rushing touchdowns.
