Refined oil makes up 47.5% of UK imports from Nigeria, surpassing crude

The United Kingdom imported more refined petroleum products than crude oil from Nigeria over the past year, ending in March 2026. Refined oil made up 47.5% of all UK imports from Nigeria, totaling £674.5 million. Crude oil imports, on the other hand, accounted for 30.9% of the total, worth £438.9 million. Natural gas imports ranked third at £179.3 million, or 12.6%.

Notably, crude oil imports from Nigeria dropped by 64.3% compared to the previous year, while natural gas imports rose by 6.9%. The data suggests that refined petroleum products have become Nigeria's leading export to the UK by value, surpassing crude oil, which has traditionally been the dominant trade item.
