Pitso Mosimane set for sensational Bafana Bafana return after SAFA NEC backing

The South African Football Association’s National Executive Committee has approved the appointment of Pitso Mosimane as the new head coach of Bafana Bafana. The decision comes after the departure of Hugo Broos, who retired from coaching the national team on July 31 following the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. SAFA held an Extraordinary National Executive Committee meeting on Saturday where they endorsed Mosimane’s leadership for the senior men’s national team.

SAFA President Dr Danny Jordaan revealed that the NEC’s endorsement has been given, but they still need to finalize some aspects. The appointment of Mosimane would be a significant return for Bafana, as he previously led the team from 2010 to 2012 before his tenure ended due to failing to qualify for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.

Since then, Mosimane has built an impressive club career, winning multiple titles with Mamelodi Sundowns and Egyptian club Al Ahly.
