Over 7,500 residents affected by June 29 floods in Ningo-Prampram

A sessional address by Ningo-Prampram District Chief Executive, Mr Raphael Uriel Nartey, revealed that the June 29, 2026 floods affected 7,566 residents across 10 communities in the district. The devastation included 1,318 houses, with Old Ningo suffering the most damage, stricken by 1,613 residents. Lekpongunor and Ahwiam followed with 1,196 and 1,183 affected residents respectively.

Mr Nartey reported that the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), local authorities, and other stakeholders swiftly distributed relief items to aid the flood-stricken communities. Despite the receding flood waters, the District Assembly, in collaboration with NADMO and other partners, is monitoring affected households and implementing preparation measures to mitigate the impact of potential future flooding.

The Assembly has strengthened disaster risk reduction and community sanitary practices through clean-up exercises and public education campaigns. It has partnered with the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council, Environmental Protection Agency, and National Sanitation League to improve environmental hygiene and reduce disease outbreaks. The Assembly also participated in a nationwide clean-up exercise in various communities, cleaning markets, schools, public spaces, and drainage channels.

In response to the June floods, the Assembly organized a district-wide clean-up exercise to reduce flood risks, improve environmental sanitation, and foster collaboration among stakeholders. Nartey urged residents to maintain clean surroundings and support the assembly's efforts to build healthier and more resilient communities.
